Activities are a huge part of our residents day to day routines, with activities all morning and afternoon, Monday to Sunday. Activities are extremely beneficial to stimulate residents minds which is why at Glendale, we like to go the extra mile to provide person centred activities tailored to individual abilities.
Every month we have live singing entertainment where residents can sing and dance, enhancing sensory and social benefit. Every Tuesday is ‘Tasty Tuesday’ where residents take it in turns to go to the local church for lunch and is an opportunity for spiritual benefit.
Every June when the sun is shining, we welcome families to join our residents for our ‘party in the carpark’ with live music and ice cream. Throughout the year, we hire a minibus and take our residents on adventures in the community, which is always something our residents look forward to and family are welcome to join. We have residents meetings monthly and we ask the residents where they would like to go, the most popular suggestion is the place we will visit. Our most recent adventures were to the seaside, jam factory and carving centre!
Pet therapy is something our residents love, including the experience of feeding horses annually. Glendale has close links with the local school and every Friday the school children come to the home and spend two hours chatting and reading to residents as well as singing some songs, which creates beaming smiles on our residents and the children's faces.
Aside from external entertainment, we do an array of group and one to one activities so those who do not enjoy group participation are still given the option to enjoy activities on a one to one basis. This includes bingo, quizzes, flower arranging, wordsearches, jigsaws, cake decorating, baking, bowls and arts and crafts.
Our residents love to look glamorous and as a home, we believe they should, so we ensure frequent visits from the hairdresser and we often have pamper sessions for those who wish to have it.
